MTO Driver Assistance

An Android tablet based assistant, designed for use in vehicle, that delivers contextual information to the user.

This data is based on GPS location, traffic and road status, weather reports, emergency vehicle proximity, and other such factors.

We have a strong focus on a hands free paradigm, and seek to minimize distractions to the driver. To facilitate this, we make use of voice commands, text to speech, and gesture based inputs.

Implementation

The app collects 4 pieces of information:
Latitude - Longitude - Bearing - Speed

This data is posted to a server and the relevant information is returned as JSON data.

Depending on what data is returned, different activities will becomes available to the user and the UI will update as such.

Features

Currently Implemented:

Road closures, US Border wait times, Location based services (Pearson),
Speech to text menu navigation, Text to speech.

In progress:

Emergency vehicle warnings, Speed aware interface, Gesture based inputs.
